Social Responsibility

Social Responsibility

Our sustainability work is thorough and does not stop at caring for the environment. We also care about the social responsibility we have as a business, employer, and a restaurant. This means taking our different stakeholders, such as our employees, the society around us and our customers, into account.

Employee wellness

Our personnel operations comply with all laws and regulations. We have also chosen to support our personnel through additional benefits, such as ergonomic and food benefits and various bonuses. The bonuses aim to inspire our employees to take initiative in the development of our operations, among other things.

We also conduct an extensive employee satisfaction survey every year. This anonymous survey allows each of our employees to share their views on working with us. In recent years, our workplaces have been praised especially for strong team spirit, equal treatment, and social support. Overall employees’ maximum performance rate was 82 % in 2022.

We also take care of the safety of the work through near miss notices. These notifications include a description of an incident that happened or almost happened at the workplace. Each notice is processed, after which any necessary steps are taken to prevent future incidents. We think that near miss notices are a good thing – restaurant work is fast-paced, and minor incidents can happen from time to time. We believe that recording and handling these incidents is an effective means in avoiding serious accidents. In 2022, we processed 370 near miss notices.

Our success as an employer is illustrated, for example, by the Pirkanmaa Employer of the Year award that we won in 2019.

Societal responsibility

Taking social responsibility also means paying attention to the surrounding society. Our societal responsibility is reflected in our operations, for example, in favoring domestic ingredients, in the employment of students, and in our ownership base. We are a 100% Finnish company, and we are owned by the student union of Tampere University, TREY.

We have also been awarded the Social Enterprise badge. It is a concrete recognition that the purpose of our business is to produce social good. An example of this is the student restaurant services we offer.

In addition, we also investigate societal responsibility in our procurements, and especially in our café products we prefer Fairtrade labelled products. Read more about our procurement policy here.

Customers at the heart of our operations

Students are our biggest customer group. We offer support for studying with our café services and by offering student-priced lunch options with balanced nutritional value, on ten different campuses. Our student lunches always meet Kela’s nutritional requirements – the lunch should meet about one third of the daily nutritional needs.

We also take great care in the safety of the goods offered. Our self-monitoring is based on an extensive self-monitoring plan that goes beyond regulatory requirements.

With the help of our self-monitoring plan, we measure and analyze our operations on a regular basis. Our restaurants use HappyOrNot meters, and we also organize an extensive customer satisfaction survey every year. The average HappyOrNot Satisfaction Index our customers gave us was 89% in 2022!
