The goal of Hankintarengas is to combine purchasing volumes and thereby gain a competitive advantage for the entire network through lower procurement prices.
Hankintarengas operations are based on shared values, financial objectives, ethical principles, and responsibility. A wide range of organizations can join the Hankintarengas, such as restaurants, care homes, catering companies, and service station entrepreneurs. Our partners include responsible and reliable operators, such as the Finnish companies Valio, Kespro, Kiilto, Jepo, Atria, and Saarioinen.
Our procurement criteria emphasize, among other things, domestic sourcing as well as the preference for organic and Fair Trade products, which the Hankintarengas makes possible.
Juvenes is part of the Hankintarengas, which enables us to make food and goods purchases centrally and responsibly. Through joint procurement, we ensure high-quality ingredients, an emphasis on domestic sourcing, and adherence to sustainable development principles. In our choices, we take environmental impacts into account and favor solutions that respect nature and support responsible food production.
Domestic Sourcing
Currently, 83% of all Juvenes’ raw materials are of domestic origin. In 2023, we purchased raw materials and products worth approximately €12.5 million (compared to about €11.5 million in 2022), meaning we supported Finnish production and operators with over €10 million! We prioritize domestic products in our procurement whenever possible.
In addition, 100% of the meat we use is always traceable to its origin. In staff restaurants, the meat is always 100% Finnish, and in student restaurants, 90% Finnish.
Fair Trade and Organic
We also prioritize organic and Fair Trade certified products whenever possible. At the moment, our selection includes 53 organic products and 14 Fair Trade products. Organic items in our selection include, for example, flour, porridge oats, coffee, tea, and juices. Fair Trade products include tea, coffee, and nuts.
In 2023, our restaurants served 1,242,965 cups of Fair Trade organic coffee and 128,626 cups of Fair Trade organic tea. We also served 3,341 cups of Fair Trade cocoa.
